We were asked by Lord and Lady Mountgarrett to construct a 40m x 20m equestrian arena on their estate near Ripon. Prior to constructing the arena we had installed 215m of post and three rail fencing around the field in which the arena was to be positioned. Lord and Lady Mountgarrett decided to keep this existing fence line, using kickboards to "square off" the arena. We excavated the site and dug the drainage channels, backfilling these with clean drainage gravel. We then covered the site in teram membrane before laying a clean stone sub-base which we covered in a second teram membrane. On top of this we laid a safe riding surface of silica sand and rubber chips.
